The Beast Master Ranger is a hybrid ranged support and melee bruiser, capable of dishing out tons of damage and controlling enemy attacks with the Summon Companion ability. Beast Master Ranger is the best Ranger build in Baldur’s Gate 3 right now because it gives players a full-strength extra companion in the party – a Bear, for the purposes of this build.
The other companion animals can be more damaging or more useful situationally, but the Bear will generally provide the best utility to a Beast Master Ranger, especially if they plan to fight at a range.

Snap an ally out of any Stun. Difficult Terrain can‘t slow them down, and they can’t be magically Paralysed or Restrained. If the target is Restrained by non-magical means, it can spend 5ft of movement to Free itself.
After choosing the Criminal or Outlander backgrounds, Monks get two more choices for skill proficiencies. If you choose to go with the Criminal background, Stealth is removed from the list of choices, while Outlanders already have Athletics covered.
Updated April 6, 2025 by Erik Petrovich : Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is right around the corner, and though lots of the new subclasses seem like a lot of fun to play, the base game still offers some very powerful options for the best Ranger build in BG3. The Beast Master Ranger is still the best Ranger build in BG3 – but that could change with the release of Patch 8. Until then, stick with this Beast Master Ranger guide to learn the best Ranger build tips, what makes the Beast Master such a powerful subclass for the Ranger, and other information that will help you min-max your Ranger character. This Ranger build guide has been updated to add in-game flavor descriptions of the class and subclass, as well as a new small section with the best consumables for the Ranger, including both potions and elixirs, in the Equipment section.
In Act 1 , which typically brings players up to around Level 5 , you will be able to choose your Ranger Subclass (Beast Master), your first Favored Enemy and Natural Explorer choices, your Fighting Style, Feats, and a handful of Lvl 1 spells.
This section covers the best equipment for Way of Shadow Monks in BG3 across all three Acts. Some pieces from early Acts may still be powerful in later ones, though, and will remain equipped through several Acts.
In Baldur’s Gate 3 , Monk builds can be enhanced further with the use of specific consumables. Certain potions, like the Elxir of Bloodlust, will grant combat-oriented bonuses for this best Monk build, while others, like the Potion of Invisibility, will enhance the Monk’s innate ability to stay stealthy in any circumstance.
Call down a silvery beam of pale light that deals 2d10 Radiant damage to any creatures that enters it or starts its turn in the light. You can use an action to move the beam 18m. On a successful save, targets still take half damage.

It’s worth dipping into Fighter a little bit for the one extra attack, but players can even go as far as Ranger 7/Fighter 5 to get an extra attack every turn, though this mean losing out on more high-level Ranger abilities.
Absolute Bane: When the wearer hits a creature with a weapon attack, it receives a 1d4 penalty to Attack Rolls and Saving Throws. The same penalty applies to anyone using these gloves without bearing the Absolute’s brand.
Choosing the Fighter multiclass in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a go-to for many looking to multiclass because, with two levels in Fighter, players unlock the Action Surge ability. With a bonus action, a character can use Action Surge to gain a second action that turn.
Raise a wall ofsolid ice that deals 10~60 Cold damage to anyone standing in its way. When the ice is broken, it leaves behind a cloud of frigid air that deals 10~60 Cold damage per turn to creatures within.
Ward yourself or an ally against enemy attacks. Until the affected entity attacks or harms another creature, it cannot be targeted by enemy attacks. However, it can still take damage from spells that influence a large area.
If you are dead set on including a character in your party, simply talk to Withers to respec them to one of the optimal Monk companion classes listed above. This way, you won’t miss out on that character’s questline, and you won’t have to suffer from an improperly balanced party.
