If you go for the Folk Hero background, though, pick up Insight and Persuasion from the list of Paladin starting skill choices. Touch a creature to grant it protection against poisonious influences. You neutralise all poisons affecting it, grant it Advantage on Saving Throws against being Poisoned, and grant it Resistance to Poison damage.
