Any downed enemy can be executed in Gears Tactics . And this doesn’t just give an appealing animation, it also rewards every soldier in the team with one AP ( Except for the executor). This essentially means more shooting, more moving, more grenades, more over-watch and more abilities. Also, grounding several enemies allows a player to bind executions, giving more bonus action points. Now, although there is a reward for killings, they are usually risky for the individual carrying them out as it exposes them. So be cauti

One of the most surprisingly helpful skills early in the Scout tree is sprint. Though limited to straight lines, the ability to dash up to three full movements with a single action point can put the scout into unorthodox places, stretching out the battlefield in a way that can play havoc with enemy lines. Additionally, the Regenerative Healing skill pairs excellently with the default Cloak ability of the Scout. Getting health when and hiding in a single breath is more or less an escape rope – get healthy and get out before they even see

For how iconic the series has become, the ever-expanding Gears of War franchise has, historically, had some issues with customization. Though there is a wild variety in the shapes and forms of the Locust adversaries, ranging from skittering dog-like monsters to cavern-mouthed titans, the Cog heroes tend to fit into two unshakable categories: beef statues clad in sci-fi plate mail for the gents, a svelte, sleeveless form of the same for the ladies. The biggest differences have come in the form of little cosmetics (Marcus has a bandana, Dom… does not) and what weapons the player tends to prefer – of which, to the games credit, there are many. Only our beefiest actors only play the characters in film adaptations and only our beefiest consoles may get secret ports of the titles. Truly, Gears of War has historically been about the beef at the cost of customizat

The weapon applications are similarly impressive. Torque Bows, Longshot Snipers, Gnashers – they all hurt just as much as they did in the originals. Even the unique Active Reload mechanic is (somewhat) emulated via the « fast fingers » perk for the Sniper class. Seeing the wide array of Gears weapons in action from a birds-eye view is pretty fr

To top it off, Tactics nails the reconstruction of familiar enemies in a turn-based world. Boomers are just as terrifying and stompy, Tickers just as erratic and hyperactive, Kantus just as loud and obnoxious . There are a few new foes to discover too, but the core army of bad dudes didn’t require many tweaks to remain interesting and formidable. As it turns out, the Locust are just as robust in a strategic sett

The Paladin skills more or less create a healer-tank of the Vanguard; picking up Rally, which effectively grants passive healing to squad mates for attacking, and Stand Together, a 10 meter revival burst that simultaneously grants a defensive buff, lets the Vanguard pitch in to the healing effort without cutting in on combat versatility. While effective in its own way, the Assault branch is a lot more situational than the other three, granting buffs to the Vanguard for damage received by both them and their squad ma

Any fan of adrenaline-packed action games has probably experienced this before; Getting into a firefight and running out of ammo almost immediately or setting a character with AP to use on Overwatch but then realize it can only fire o

Unfortunately, this is where Tactics becomes a bit dull. The recruiting system and side characters are mostly forgettable. The tactical variety isn’t the largest either, leaving the player with a handful of options. It isn’t dry by any means, yet after the first 15 hours of the roughly 25-hour campaign, you essentially get the gist of it. This would’ve been negligible in the wake of diverse mission designs, but sadly – this isn’t the c

Though there are many ways to play the Scout, the class is somewhat unique in how all four of its specialization trees contribute to the making of an expert ambush predator. The skills come together to emphasize speed and stealth, amplifying the cloak while offering a treasure trove of ways to put the hurt on the Locusts. Some particular standouts that can be immensely useful for top tier smash-and-dash approaches are Escape Route, Demolition expert, and Anticipation. Escape Route is ideal for finishing blows that would otherwise be high risk – having cloak pop immediately after executing a downed enemy makes for a scout who can make a dynamic hit with little risk of retaliation. Demolition expert is the trapper’s choice, allowing the Scout to plant grenades and proximity mines while remaining hidden. Plant bombs, duck out of dodge, take shots, watch the fireworks – easy money. Using Anticipation can allow these skills, and as many others as the imagination will allow, to be used in fatal unity. Starting the round with five moves allows for some truly complex strategies to be enacted, shifting the challenge from limited resources to the limit of the player’s creativity, which is, of course, a great post to read place to be. It is also worthwhile to pick up Ambush and Free Cloak to boost the Cloak and Obfuscate to share its effects with the team. Never hurts to be invisible in a gunfi
